Can AI really think?

Birds fly by flapping wings. Planes fly with engines.
Both achieve flight, but through completely different means.

Similarly:
Humans think via complex biological processes.
AI generates responses based on data patterns.

While both produce outputs, the mechanisms are fundamentally different.

Who cares?

Using "think" for AI is misleading. I don't even like Anthropic changing their text to "thinking deeply" - It suggests human-like qualia, qualia that AI simply cannot have. This anthropomorphizing can lead to misunderstandings about AI's capabilities and intentions.

In reality, AI responses come from algorithms and statistics, not genuine thought or emotion. imo, as AI becomes more integrated into our lives, it's vital we maintain clarity about what it can and can't do.

A bird is not a plane, a plane is not a bird, they both fly, and that is totally chill.
